The Roads and Transport Authority announced at the Future Cities Show in Dubai that number plates will eventually display a smart screen, to replace the current metal plates, according to a Khaleej Times report.
The new plates will have some epic features; plates can connect with each other, exchange information if there’s an accident or even traffic on the road ahead. This information will be shared via the central RTA system.
You can also pay for parking via an e-wallet connected to the digital plates and incredibly, if someone attempts to steal the car or steal the plate, the word ‘stolen’ will flash up.
Testing will begin next month, so expect to see a couple of digital plates rolling around Dubai.
